Dr. Schaaf is Continuum's Chief Medical Officer and the physician at our Charlottesville practice. He combines his experience in family medicine with years of independent study in prevention, longevity and emerging treatments.

Why Dr. Schaaf founded Continuum.
Dr. Schaaf built Continuum to help members live the lives they want, bringing advances in medicine into an ongoing relationship with each patient. That means addressing illness and meaningful risks while working toward what you want to be able to do in the years ahead.
Advanced diagnostics and new treatments need a physician who understands both the evidence and the person. Dr. Schaaf uses that understanding to decide what the findings should change in your care, then follows your progress and refines the plan with you.
Training and experience
Education
Dr. Schaaf was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hampden-Sydney College and his medical degree from The George Washington University.
His postgraduate training began with a general surgery internship at VCU Medical Center, where he learned surgical techniques and cared for surgical and critically ill patients. During the internship, he realized he wanted to practice family medicine and went on to complete his residency at the VCU Chesterfield Family Practice Family Medicine Residency Program.
Clinical experience
He is board-certified in family medicine and addiction medicine. He has practiced outpatient family medicine, worked as a hospitalist and concierge physician, and provided medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction in an addiction medicine clinic.
He has spent years independently studying prevention, longevity and regenerative medicine, with a particular interest in conditions that shorten life or limit its quality. Alongside his clinical practice, he continues to study medical research and new technologies.
Professional service
Dr. Schaaf has served on the Medical Society of Virginia's Board of Directors and is vice president of the Richmond Academy of Medicine. Through these organizations, he has collaborated with physicians and legislators on health policy in Virginia.
